Confinement nanny stories

Wifey now wants a confinement nanny because she is sure she is unable to cope with Braedyn and No. 2. My fears aside, can everyone here share their personal good/horror stories or those of their relatives/friends. To date, I have not heard of a single good story of the ideal confinement nanny. Please give me some hope.

Hubby’s birthday celebration

Hubby’s birthday is on 22nd November (I got to know that Shoppingmum and Carelessmum’s birthdays are on the same day!). We had a normal dinner with the immediate family at Riblees located at Sri Hartamas. Apparently Riblees is famous for their pork ribs, recommended by hubby’s friend. It was so difficult to locate the restaurant as it only had a very small signboard but we found it after asking around. It is located across the road from Burger King/Projet on the 1st floor above the new Arabic bank.

At first, this wifey of Daddykhong wanted to bake a cake for the occasion but she didn’t manage to do it (excuse: no time :-) ) (daddykhong: no time….no taste!!) Fortunately, on the day itself I made an appointment with my sister to jalan-jalan at 1-Utama and at the same time looked for a cake for hubby. If not, I wouldn’t have a chance to buy a cake because I usually go out with hubby and I am sure he will not let me buy him a cake.

I always have the cravings for Bakerzin’s cakes. I looked at their cakes, hoping to find a birthday cake for hubby. I found one which I liked, Mango Mousse cake. Furthermore, the cake was a good size, not too big and not too small. Unfortunately, the cake was already reserved.

I almost gave up buying until the girl told me that they could make the similar cake on the spot but I had to wait for 30 minutes. I was so delighted to hear that. The girl took down my number so that she could call me once the cake was ready to be picked up. To pass time, sis and I walked back to the car to get milk for Brae. Within 20 minutes (and before we even got to the car), the girl called me and said that the cake was ready. I was impressed!

We arrived at the restaurant at 8:10 pm. To our surprise, we were the only customers that night. They gave us very good service since we were the only customers there. The lady boss came over to chit-chat with us and even gave us two complimentary home-made Cookies & Cream ice cream cakes. The boss’ 2 1/2 year-old daughter, Sara liked Brae so much that she kept feeding Brae water from his water bottle. I suppose she wanted a younger brother to play with.

Sorry lah dear, no present for you…only a cake. Happy belated birthday! Hugs hugs and kiss kiss from Brae and wifey.

The lucrative confinement business

We paid a visit to Pei Ling last weekend to sign up for their confinement food package. They have recently relocated to their new premises opposite the Taman Bahagia LRT station.

Brand new bungalow with a 2-storey block at the front housing the Pei Ling business and a 3-storey block at the rear where the boss and her family live. Massive place (for my standards) with classy furnishing to convince any fool brave enough to walk in to sign on the dotted line. They even have interest-free plans with Citibank and Maybank to hoodwink us that we are only paying RMxxx a month instead of RMxxxx lump sum.

Fortunately, wifey was smart enough to ask them for the specific plan she wanted, else we would have had to sign up for one of their all-in-one packages, half of which she wouldn’t use anyway.

I think we should all quit our day jobs and start a confinement practice.

Braedyn is fat when…..

  • Doctor tells us to “give him less meat”
  • People on the street ask us what brand of formula we give him (maybe we could earn some endorsement fees!)
  • Ba-Ba cannot carry him for more than 10 minutes
  • A friend says, “I bet he’s on Enfalac”
  • Drypants XL (which is the largest size available) seem tight for him
  • He is 1 year old but we are buying him clothes for 2 year olds
  • Most importantly, Ba-Ba’s car cannot accelerate as quickly as it used to (ok lah…..mum’s partly to blame as well)
  • Ba-Ba’s car headlights seem to be on high beam when they are not

From daddy’s desk – Braedyn…now that he’s 1

At what point in time does a child’s personality come out? The personality that he/she will exhibit for the rest of his/her life? I hope it is not when the child is 1 year old because that would mean that Braedyn will be a spoilt little brat with a hot temper to boot.

Of late, he loves to scream, cry, thrust his chubby legs, the lot, every time we stop him from doing what he’s doing or wants to do. In the bedroom, his favourite would be to find a way to get off the bed and crawl towards our wardrobe (with sliding doors). He will make his way to the left (mum’s) side, grab the door and give the door a S-H-O-V-E, watch as the door wobbles shakily (what to do, Ikea wardrobe not meant for rough use!) towards the right (dad’s) side and wait for the WHAM before rushing over to the right to repeat the fun. Left, right, left, right x 10 times. I cringe each time the door reaches the end of the rails and the wardrobe groans.

Occasionally, he will slide the door open, make his way to the lowest drawer, pull it open and empty all the contents onto the floor. Does the fact that it is always the drawer where mum keeps her feminine items mean something? Sanitary pads, panty liners, even the maternity pads from SJMC (which I don’t understand why mum still keeps) all over the floor in a matter of 10 seconds.

Brushing his teeth

It used to be a joy teaching him how to brush his teeth. I offer him his brush, he takes it, I start brushing my own teeth while carrying him with my right arm, he follows suit and brushes his teeth. Sometimes, he drops his brush and grabs mine to help me brush my teeth.

Now, he just refuses to brush his teeth, my teeth or anything else for that matter. Any attempt to stick a brush into his mouth will end up with him giving us his famous temper tantrum. Braedyn, next time when your teeth all turn yellow, don’t blame Ba-Ba, ok?

Feeding him outside

These days we have to ensure that our ordered food arrives AFTER he has eaten his own food. Once any plate of food is placed on the table, Braedyn would automatically reject food from his container. Naturally, temper tantrum time comes when we don’t comply.

What to do? Any advice? It looks like Braedyn’s the boss now.  I sincerely hope his bad temper improves else I may require counselling myself.
