Sick for 1 week

Brae has been sick for 1 whole week. It started off with a mild fever after his Kindermusik class last Saturday. I wonder why, he always falls sick after the class 😦 . Since it was just a mild fever, we didn’t bother to bring him to see Dr. since he would give us the same fever medicine anyway. Brae’s temperature was fluctuating for the next four days. He even had a cough and seemed to have difficulty in breathing.

We decided to bring him to see Dr. on the fifth day. Besides the normal fever, Dr. discovered that Brae was wheezing. Dr. told us he suspected the wheezing could be due to asthma. Brae was given medicine through a breathing mask for 5 minutes. Luckily he wasnt’ too bothered with the mask and he sat still the entire session.
That night was a terrible night for the three of us. All of us didn’t get a good sleep because Brae’s coughing was quite bad. He coughed non stop every hour, as if he was trying to cough all the phlegm out. Brae was given 2 more medicines, one for his wheezing and the other one was something called a “stabiliser” together with the usual cough medicine.

I lost count how many times he has vomitted, triggered by his excessive coughing. We now have plastic bowls scattered around the house to cope with this.
Of course, MIL’s input didn’t help at all. At this point of time, Brae is recovering and his cough is getting better. Phewww….finally.

I’m glad he is feeling better. It’s sucha heartache to see the babies ill, huh? I dunno if you trust the Chinese herbs but there is one call chuin pui..that’s apparently very good for cough.

My kids are coughing too 😦 Actually, if the mucus gets too much and Brae (being so small) is unable to cough it out, the nebulizer can help (that’s what you call the mask with medication thingy). It helps loosen the phlegm). Anyway, glad to hear he is recovering. I know what you meant with the PHEW 🙂

I think he can since he is 10-m-old already. Check with an herbalist. I could be wrong. I know we always take chuin pui for cough.

Ok. Thanks. Will check that out.

I would rub my son with baby vicks if he is coughing seriously at night. Normally it helps to soothe him back to sleep for another 2 hours. Then i have to rub him again before the cough starts.

I didn’t try using vicks but I tried ‘yu yi’ oil. Not really working though.

First time to your blog. I think it was the sick season last week. My boys were also sniffing and coughing away. One of them is an asthmatic. What caught my attention on your blog was the post you had just before this one about your MIL’s reaction to hearing that Brae was ill.

    Nice blog.

Thanks for visiting my blog. How do you handle an asthmatic child? I’m afraid Brae has asthma although it only occurs once.
