Waiting for the D-Day

Tuesday, January 9, 2007 2:45 am at 2:45 am 10 comments

I went for the usual check-up with my gynae last week and he told me to get prepared for delivery anytime soon as everything that should happen has come and passed. Both of us are so thrilled to hear the news and are patiently waiting for baby’s arrival. Tick-tock-tick-tock.

There are so many “good” dates around this time of the year for the baby to come out.; 31 Dec, 1 Jan, 6 Jan (er….stretching it a bit but the same date as Brae), 7 Jan (nice NRIC # πŸ™‚ ) but all these dates have passed and baby is still very contented giving me regular kicks to keep me awake at night. Due date is 19 Jan so the clock continues to tick-tock-tick-tock.

So many things to do, so little time left. Some of the things we have been doing lately include:

  • Sushi-eating (but without the raw-fish so half the fun gone 😦 ). Daddykhong very broke these days even though he usually eats the RM2 plates. No point really especially when I, the monster eater, go for the RM4, RM6 or RM8 plates.
  • Confinement lady – Yah! No more CL for my confinement. No need to rank them using Zaramama’s 10-star scoring system. My aunt offered to help out during the 1st month. This is the same aunt who looked after me when I was a little girl.
  • Confinement shopping – We bought “dai fung ngai” (Chinese herbal bath), “lor mai jau” (Chinese wine), ginger for cooking and bathing, and herbs that my kind sister bought from hometown because it’s cheaper there.
  • Mummy – Packed a bag for the hospital stay with an extra bag for Brae’s things (diapers, clothes, milk powder, milk bottle and wipes) in case we need to bring him to my aunt’s house / BILs / MIL to take care of him during the labour (depending on the day and time of the labour). If I’m in labour during the night, daddykhong has to ‘jaga’ our boy while I stay in the hospital alone.
  • Daddy – Meanwhile, daddykhong has gone into nesting mode overtime. After many, many months of procrastination, he finally moved his arse into Ikea to buy the final 3 pieces of furniture we need for the new arrival (I guess, he should be more like Nadia who seems to have made Ikea her 2nd home!). 2 pieces assembled the very next day and the last (Brae’s new bed) assembled within a week (last night). He has prepared one of our cars to be the family transporter with the other as his daily drive to work. Both of them serviced and ready to go.
  • Brae – Brought Brae to Gymboree (Bangsar Village) & Kizsports (1-U) trials. He loves his new bed but only for play and not for sleep. At night, he refuses to sleep in his new bed and would insist of crawling back into our bed before falling asleep. We would transfer him to his bed after that but he would wake up at 7am crying instead of the usual 10am.

Bed assembly commenced at 11:45pm and ended at 1:10am. Mattress and setting up the bed took another 20 mins.

Brae has been observing daddykhong at work so he decided to have a go at tightening the nuts the minute he got hold of the hex key.

  • Baby – We (or more specifically, lazy daddykhong) didn’t want to adjust the height of the baby cot. Moreover, I need the cot in our room for Brae in case I need to go to the bathroom. So, we bought a changing table from Ikea for the baby. I bought a little nice dress for our baby girl from the bazaar at The Curve. She’ll be using Brae’s clothes in the early months before she gets her fashion sense!

That’s so cute, trying to tighten the screws/nuts. I like the mattress cover, it has height measurements on it!

I am happy to report that Brae spent his 2nd night entirely in his new bed. He got up at his usual time, gave us his big smile and proceeded to climb back into our bed.

Our gifts for swapping are bought and packed into the car already.

It’s good that you’re training Brae to sleep on a twin size bed. We started Belle with a full size bed and now she’s sleep all over the bed.
