Shayanne’s full-moon gift

Shayanne turned 1-month old on 24 February 2006. Being the 2nd one and full-moon smacked in the middle of Chinese New Year, we did not have a classy dinner at a classy restaurant (no classy restaurants in mummy’s hometown anyway). In fact, we didn’t celebrate it at all apart from distributing full-moon gift packs.

Being lazy people, we went the OneJoy route again. This time we got the Little Precious design since it was CNY and it looks lovely for a girl.

Damn the relatives

Braedyn sure had a horrid 2nd Chinese New Year. Well, he was too young to remember anything or to have a part in any of the games his other young friends played the first time round.

This year, he smiled at everyone, took all ang-pows offered to him with his grubby little hands then proceeding to scrunch them up into little balls, and had a little piece of mandarin orange every time daddy had one. Don’t tell mummykhong this, he even enjoyed the last few drops of shandy from the can after daddy was done with it (not my fault, he grabbed the can from me and wouldn’t let go).

All his fun dissipated on the 2nd night of Chinese New Year. Why? I’ll tell you why. It’s because daddykhong has dim-witted, 1/2-brained, kampung-styled relatives who seriously need a crash course in basic common sense, manners, and perhaps a brain implant!

I brought Braedyn to my uncle’s open house in Bidor (this uncle is a very showy fella, opens his “palace” to all on the 2nd night of CNY without fail). Wifey and Shayanne stayed at the in-laws place in Tapah. We were sitting in the porch just inside the gate when suddenly my hero cousin’s teenage son decided to light some bombastic firecrackers which could probably pass off as WMD (Hey Bush…’re looking at the wrong place. It’s China which is making all the WMD you so crave for!) You know the kind that comes in a cube and lets off a loud BANG, followed by 5 or 6 other loud BANGS. Each god-damned BANG sounding as if a gun went off inside your head.

I JUMPED, my relatives in their 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, and 70s sitting on the same table as myself also JUMPED and Braedyn went MENTAL. Seriously M-E-N-T-A-L. I don’t want to describe it because the thought of him freaking out still brings shivers to my spine.

After the xx numbers of BANGS, I picked Braedyn up, stormed out of the house and drove back to the in-laws place vowing NEVER to visit that crummy house in Bidor again. Dim-witted fools, the teenage kid, his parents and his grandparents for not giving him any brains and teaching him some basic common sense. And I thought it was only our Malaysian politicians who exhibited these qualities. I guess if MCA Cawangan Bidor wants a member, my teenage relative will make a good candidate.

Now our little boy is scared of the dark, jumps at every sound, hangs on to my arm when we are stationary at the traffic lights (something he has never done before), and cries for no reason in the middle of the night.

Wifey’s 1st day alone with the babies

As expected, I came back home to find my other half all teary-eyed probably for the following reasons:

  • She’s overjoyed to see me!
  • Braedyn and Shayanne have been giving her hell
  • She finally realised that she’s gotten herself into a black hole of no-return  (unfortunately Shayanne didn’t come with a 30-day return policy)
  • Or maybe she’s pissed with me for coming back at 930pm when I said I’ll leave the office at 6:30-7pm

She’s a tough cookie though and I am sure she will adapt to her new routine soon enough. Meanwhile, I really have to get up early, leave work at a decent time, help her with the babies, and stay up real late to blog and follow up on emails from work.

And Braedyn has started to hit his mei mei whenever he’s close to her. Wonderful! When I tell him off sternly, he proceeds to smack me! Ouch.

Updates from mommy

My aunty – My aunty will be going back to her hometown for CNY preparations this Saturday. She has been helping me with the cooking and taking care of Brae when I’m attending to the little one. I’m so happy and relieved to have her during my confinement. Too bad she’s only helping me for 2.5 weeks. I think my life will be a living hell next week when I have to handle one toddler and a baby.

Braedyn – Fortunately, Brae doesn’t stick to me when I nurse Shayanne. He will occasionally crawl towards me and give her little sister a stroke on her head. What a good kor-kor he is! I’m so proud of him. However, he is addicted to the TV now. When my aunty finishes her cooking and cleaning up, she will switch on the TV while keeping an eye on Brae (you know lah, the usual Chinese staple of serials and serials and more serials). I hope he will be a good kor-kor when my aunty leaves. (daddykhong: Well, at least Astro will be happy to have a new young recruit. They don’t call it the “idiot box” for no reason.)

Shayanne – She has been a very good girl so far. She cried a lot during the first 3 days, mainly because of my low milk supply. During that time, I had to put her to my breast all the time to produce more milk. I even had to supplement formula for her during the night. I’m so glad that my milk supply has been consistent after that. No more formula supplement and fully on breastmilk! My midwife worries that Shayanne will be deprived of breastmilk after my aunty leaves because I have to attend to Brae as well

She sleeps a lot during the day compared to her brother, Braedyn. That’s the only time where I can play with Braedyn and sleep with him for his nap. During night time, I just lift up my shirt to nurse her when she cries and I continue my good night sleep. Ahhh…how easy it is to breastfeed during the night.

Mummy – I am feeling much better now as my wound has completely healed. No more confinement food as my aunty is not around anymore next week. I have to be selective on what type of food to eat. According to my aunty, must eat HEATY food. Therefore, daddykhong has to ‘ta pau’ heaty food for me! I haven’t figured out on the routine to cook Brae’s meal. Hopefully, I can set a routine for Brae and baby next week. If I can still blog next week, that means I have set my routine…. 🙂 So wait for my next post ya!

Daddykhong – Daddykhong has been very helpful in caring for the baby and Brae.

  • He will wake up during the night to change Shayanne’s soiled diaper.
  • He will bring Brae out so that I can attend to the baby while my aunty cooks.
  • He will buy me cakes (from my favourites Bakerzin, La Manila & Secret Recipe) for my tea time.
  • He will bathe Shayanne in the morning (the first few days) and Brae when he is back from work.
  • He will do all the daily house chores.

(daddykhong: *Blushes* Pai-seh lah, tell the whole world all the things I do. Nothing much really. All in a day’s job. Er, what household chores have I done? Our garden has grass which is probably 1 ft high in certain areas. Dust bunnies are everywhere around the house. I come back not earlier than 10pm after work.)

Brae is eating ice-cream

Selfish me, I bought a box of Mini Cornetto for myself and was happily feasting on one when daddykhong asked why wasn’t I giving Brae one since the size is just right for a baby.

Sorry Braedyn, mummy is greedy. Next time I will think of you first.
